(1 VHS Video) Addiction to drugs and alcohol is a disease - chronic, progressive and fatal if left untreated. This report features true stories told by recovering addicts and insightful commentary by law enforcement professionals and counselors, describes the miseries of substance abuse and methods of overcoming addiction. MAKING CHOICES. In this program, 17-year-olds Shannon and Jay openly discuss the factors that sent them spiraling into drug addiction and their subsequent attempts to recover. Dramatizations of interviews with their parents, teachers, and friends, along with reenactments of upsetting family incidents, reveal financial and abuse issues at home and an unwillingness to confront the changes in the addicts' behaviors and personalities. What Shannon and Jay had in common was that eventually even the strongest drugs could no longer bring a feeling of relief from their problems.

The Facts About Alcohol Rehab and Drug Rehab Programs

!: The Facts About Alcohol Rehab and Drug Rehab Programs

Alcohol rehab and drug rehab centers and programs require a sincere dedication on the part of the addict to make sure that they are successful in their task. Some say that if the person addicted to the substance abuse is dedicated and sincere about wanting to be rehabilitated, that is as much as 50% of the way to the road to recovery. So clearly, finding the right alcohol rehab program or drug rehabilitation center can make all the difference. If you choose the wrong program, your chances for successful treatment are greatly reduced.

Depending on the type of addiction, treatments vary from center to center and from program to program. Alcohol rehab programs will concentrate on various aspects of the addiction, but the focus areas will be different for drug rehabilitation. And even further for drug rehab, there is a difference in treatments depending on whether the drug addiction is prescription drugs or street drugs such as heroin or amphetamines. The rehab center is almost an all-encompassing term for the medical and psychotherapeutic treatments that are used during the rehabilitation process.

The first step in the treatment process is to make an evaluation of the addict. One of the steps here is to determine the addict's sincerity in wanting to enter the rehab program, which again plays a key ingredient to the success of the program for the individual. A complete profile of the person being treated will be gathered, and one of the many focal points will be the reason for the addiction. Was it related to job stress, marital problems, financial problems, or what? Typically, a person does not start with substance abuse out of a clear blue sky, so part of the profiling is done to determine the reason for it, as well as to work with the family during the rehab process to see if the issues that caused the patient to turn to substance abuse still exist in their life.

Another step in the rehab process will focus on the aspects of withdrawal, whether the withdrawal is from alcohol or drugs. Depending on the severity of the addiction as well as the personality of the patient, the detoxification process can be grueling, although this step is absolutely necessary. The patient's body has become accustomed to being pacified with the abused substance, and taking away that substance will almost guarantee a reaction. It may not be pleasant but it is a very necessary part.

Since people who are diagnosed with substance abuse are frequently at the point of ignoring other daily necessities, the program will keep a close eye on providing the proper nutrition for the patient, who frequently has nutritional deficiencies. The diet of the patient during the rehab process is one of the important parts of rehab, creating a very balanced a vitamin-rich diet.

If someone you love is addicted to alcohol or drugs, the best thing you can do for them is to encourage them to seek help. Their addiction is going to continue to get worse, and the final outcome without help is bleak. The best thing you can do for them is to convince them that they need the help to kick the habit permanently. Getting them into an alcohol rehab or drug rehab program will be the best thing you could ever do for them.

Alcohol, Drug Rehabilitation

!: Alcohol, Drug Rehabilitation

Lately, Alcohol and drugs have become an intrinsic part of our society. They are like an epidemic present everywhere which influences a large part of society with deadly consequences. One person introduces it to the other, the second to the third while some reach them on their own. In the initial stages, the need arises out of curiosity, but in no time the person finds himself completely dependent on these psychoactive substances. The problem becomes so gross that if timely assistance is not provided to the addict, it ruins his entire being, from his health to his household, relations, career and everything else. Sooner or later rehab becomes essential in form of alcohol rehab or drug rehab.

Therein lies the need for Rehabilitation, the need to wake up the mind, to restore it to a life of dignity and prosperity. Programs like residential treatment, drug rehab, alcohol rehab or sober houses, support groups etc. are commonly used. Drug rehab sees to it that the patient recovers from his dependence on alcohol and drugs by offering a healthy and safe environment to them, medical assistance of experienced doctors and motivation to realize their self-worth and responsibilities. To make this venture successful they use a number of techniques depending upon the seriousness of a patient's condition. Age and gender specific programs are also included. Often a patient is advised to avoid association with his former drug consuming friends. For legal drugs like alcohol, a complete abstention is recommended to eliminate the chances of relapse. A twelve step program is followed to completely change the person's addiction and thinking habits.

The treatment starts off with detoxification or detox, in which the person's system is freed from the drugs. The therapeutic process includes medication and behavior therapy which reduces the chances of relapse. Motivational speeches, interviews, and an aim to eradicate the desire of the patient to consume drugs are all parts of this process. Drugs like Cocaine, and other prescribed drugs by doctors are all mostly used to stimulate central nervous system powerfully. Therefore medicines like buprenorphine and Methadone are prescribed; behavioral therapies for nervous system depressant addiction are also commonly used. Ibogain is another hallucinogenic drug used to control physical and psychological dependence on drugs. But its use can be fatal and has led to deaths in several cases. Hence it is an illegal method of combating this problem. Against alcohol addiction, medications like Topiramate, Acamprosate and disulfiram have also shown to help. Beside these medications a number of other historical approaches are also used to stop the use and abuse of alcohol and drugs.

Disease model and twelve-step programs

First published in the book Alcoholic Anonymous in 1939 it stresses upon the behavioral treatment and need for the individual to accept his addiction, denounce his dependency on drugs by changing his former lifestyle and seeking social help. All these approaches are a part of the 12 step program.
Client Centered Approaches

Psychologist Carl Rogers came up with three important conditions for a person to change in his book Client-centered therapy: unconditional positive regard, accurate empathy, and genuineness. He said with conviction that these three conditions can help a person overcome any trouble in his life.

Psychoanalytic approaches

Sigmund Freud suggests that a person abuses drugs to cater to his deviant fantasies. This approach is completely in contrast with social cognitive theory as it does not hold impulses and our internal choices responsible for addiction syndrome.

Cognitive models of addiction recovery

Under this approach relapse prevention and the risk of the person returning to his old lifestyle is prevented by cognitive behavioral approaches for additional recovery. This approach was given by Alan Marlatt in 1985.

Emotional regulation has also been known to combat drug abuse.

With all these available approaches to combat drug abuse one can conclude that if a person exercises proper self-control and take right kind of precautions, he can very well succeed in overcoming his addiction problems and leading a happy and healthy life with his family. Rehab in form of Drug or alcohol rehab might be the first solution.

Searching For Cheap Drug And Alcohol Rehab Centers?

!: Searching For Cheap Drug And Alcohol Rehab Centers?

So, you have agreed to check into a drug and alcohol drug rehab center but want the cheapest one. You don't have all the money in the world to enter into the expensive ones out there. Not to worry as you'll get the centers right here.

The cost of undergoing treatment in a drug and alcohol rehab center is a subjective issue. What is affordable to one person may not be applicable to another. So, you're right to look for cheap rehab centers. You don't have to break into a bank or go broke in the name of getting off drug and alcohol addiction.

One of the best sources of cheap drug and alcohol rehab centers is the non-profit type. This type of centers' fees is often low compared to their for-profit counterpart. Most of the not-for-profit centers are managed and funded by either the federal government of the country or religious organizations.

The following centers are some of the non-profit centers out there that you can attend and get good treatment at an affordable rate.

- Pemarro is a non profit drug and alcohol addiction recovery center located in Ramona, California.

- Ohlhoff Recovery Programs is a non-profit center which offers inpatient and outpatient alcohol and drug treatment center situated in San Francisco, California.

- The Gurley House, a non-profit center for women who have had a history of problems with alcohol or substance abuse. The period of stay at the center is six months.

- COPE Behavioral Services, Inc. is a non-profit behavioral healthcare organization providing treatment and rehabilitation for substance abuse and other mental health conditions in men and women.

You can begin your search with these and similar drug and alcohol rehab centers.

Apart from the not for profit centers, there are some centers whose fee is often low when compared to those of others. You can only get these centers after short listing reputable centers and contacting them. This is what is known as comparison shopping.

However, it needs to be stressed that you must never at any time sacrifice quality at the expense of cheapness. Your health matters a lot and therefore should not be joked with because of lack of enough money. In other words, never go out there looking for cheap rehab centers without looking at the quality of services that the center is offering.

Cheap drug and alcohol rehab centers abound all over the country. It only requires lots of patience on your part to get them. Remember these centers exist because of you. They can't continue offering their services if there is no patronage. Therefore, they too are more concerned about offering their services at low rate than their competitors in order to stay in business and earn more profit.

When you make use of the tips given in this article, you will not find it hard to get a center that will not require you breaking into a bank before you can get treatment.

Alcohol, Aging, and Curing Cancer

!: Alcohol, Aging, and Curing Cancer

Recent media coverage has been devoted to the quality of alcohol to extend human life span. A rather insolent statement inspecting the historical barrage of disparaging findings with regard to alcohol and its secondary ill condition effects. However, if we isolate this one seeing without examining the broader context of alcohol's adverse condition effects, in the long run, we probably do more harm than good.

Using Albert Einstein's illustrious equation,

E=Mc2

I have formulated the Time Longevity equation. By replacing the velocity of light coefficient with its equivalent velocity variables (distance/time), I have generated the Time or Longevity equation. Time equals the quadrate root of distance squared times mass times the inverse of energy. I have proclaimed this formula, The Rainer Time Longevity Equation.

Rainer's Time Longevity Equation

T=√D2x M x 1/E

Rainer's Time Longevity Equation states that an organism's life span is interdependent on three variables. Those three variables are distance (D), Mass (M), and energy (E). Animals of discrete species, including man, may alter these three variables in order to prolong life. Since time is relative to movement through space, animals may slow the aging process by forward movement through space. The greater the distance covered, the greater the positive impact on longevity. Animals that have the capacity to fly have an increased (D) variable compared to their non flying counterparts. Likewise, animals that typically fly or swim large distances will have a similarly increased life span. In short, caging migratory animals equates to a death sentence. The Galapagos Tortoise for example, has capitalized on all three variables of distance (D), Mass (M), and energy (E) in order to maximize its midpoint life span of 150 years. The tortoise shuttles through the ocean's currents (Increased D); It possesses a large inert shell that requires no metabolic maintenance (Increased M); Tortoises possess exceedingly slow movement with a similarly decreased metabolic rate (Decreased E).

Man has achieved greater longevity through modernization which includes among other things, more rapid trip modalities (Increased D). Air trip has helped push man's life span to higher limits. Space trip shows even greater promise in extending man's life span. Increased Mass allows larger mammals to extend their life span by increasing the (M) variable. Man may also alter time by manipulating the Mass (M) variable. Ancient Egyptians brilliantly utilized this fact by spending time residing in pyramids. Bear in mind, that a pyramid by virtue of its construction, is virtually entirely mass. Modern French researchers were astounded when they located a dead cat and raw fresh meat in the interior of the Great pyramid, only to find both items exquisitely preserved days later. Likewise, Dinosaurs improved their life span by virtue of their enormous mass.

Lastly, this brings us to energy (E), the final variable of the Rainer Time Longevity Equation. Given that time or longevity has an inverse association to energy (E), all things that decrease energy will invariably increase time. However, I would like to point out that items that decrease the (E) variable and therefore increase longevity, may not necessarily heighten the quality of life. Items that decrease the energy (E) component and cause a decrease in Basal Metabolic Rate and secondarily increase longevity, contain the following: love, marriage, hibernation, sleep, coma, stupor, caloric reduction, prayer, meditation, healthful substances that suppress the central nervous system.

This brings us to the conference of alcohol. Alcohol is a central nervous law depressant. Furthermore, it decreases brain endorphin production. Alcohol may increase longevity by decreasing the energy (E) variable thus reducing Basal Metabolic Rate. However, we must not overlook the positive ill effects that alcohol has on our whole health. Alcohol causes brain atrophy, liver cirrhosis, and promotes the formation of discrete types of cancer. Alcohol in a broader context has damaging effects on the body. Additionally, by reducing endogenous brain endorphin levels, alcohol robs our subconscious mind of its creativity and severs our link with God. Alcohol steals our ambition which, many may argue, is our chief purpose for existence.

Invariably, time to come studies will likely hold findings that opiates such as heroin and codeine increase longevity by inducing a comatose state. But few would claim that periodic heroin use is useful in enhancing one's life. Let's not be seduced into accepting isolated explore findings as virtuous advances. Embracing a morally sound lifestyle shows the most promise in extending and enhancing the quality of life. enhancing endogenous brain endorphin yield by habit rehearsal and meditation, facilitates a quality lifestyle. Naturally, man desires a longer life span. Likewise, an linked increase in life span will occur as man adopts the following lifestyle and behavior modifications: swifter trip modalities (increased D); decrease in obesity(decreased E); obtain more sleep (decreased E); prayer (decrease E);universal love (decrease E); consumption of minimal amounts of wine (decrease E); reside in structures composed of denser building materials (increase M) such as granite high rises.

I would like to add a caveat while on the topic of energy (E). Contrary to current favorite trust and aside from acute injury, a lower bone density contributes to a longer life span. High bone masses want increased metabolic rates to maintain. Likewise, an increased Basal Metabolic Rate shortens life span. As Man evolves, he sacrifices the amelioration of high bone density for superior brain development. Asian ethnic groups, known to have the bottom bone density, likewise have the longest life span. Hence, lower bone density promotes longer life. This may finally encourage the use of healthful agents targeted to heighten osteoclast operation (cells that reabsorb bone tissue) in order to heighten life span. Additionally, this may discourage the use of aggressive healthful treatments used to build bone in order to preclude osteoporosis.

The human body, given its fine tuning due to an whole evolutionary process, capitalizes on the energy (E) component of the Time Longevity equation. The body utilizes fever as a weapon to combat bacterial and viral offenders. By raising the body's core temperature when faced with a crisis, effectively increasing energy (E), the body's immune law selectively shortens the life cycle of the offending bacterial or viral agent. Hence, fever can assist the body in its attempt to destroy infecting organisms. However, the body must precipitously drop the temperature once the offending threat has been thwarted in order to circumvent its own demise. Fever, although an effective defensive tool, can also prove extremely perilous if left unchecked. Severe systemic infections may increase the basal metabolic rate (E) beyond limits compatible with life.

We must also avoid the temptation to implement detrimental behavior patterns in an attempt to extend life span. This is particularly true if newly adapted practices jeopardize the quality of life or blunt the creativity of the human mind. Our minds are our cherished tools that serve as the link to connect us to our higher power. Our minds resonate with one other allowing us to share our creativity and inspiration which may then develop into a material equivalent. No substance, compound, or healthful agent should ever compromise this higher cerebral function. Our minds empower our capacity to connect to one another, our environment, and with God. We live to promote our idea capacity for now and beyond. Our bodies merely serve as our mind's temporary housing. Alcohol excess can evoke the brain's capacity for addiction, a biological disease. In all fairness, two glasses of red wine consumed on a weekly basis may have some positive condition benefits. Red wine with its antioxidant properties coupled with relaxants, may enable us to cope with life's rigors. But stronger types of alcohol such as whiskey, bourbon, rum, and vodka often tax the capacity of our liver's detoxification capabilities and therefore cause systemic illness.

Time trip is also implicit to this discussion. As we photo a tennis player assault a ball without the aid of a ice frame lens, we see that appeal is composed of a sequence of independent movements separated by distance and time. Likewise, photographing our solar law gives us the same effect. Photos of seemingly independent planets appear separated only by distance. But, however, this is effectively one of the same. Our solar law is the evolution of one planet only-- Earth. Mars is earth's time to come and Venus is earth's past. The volcanoes on Mar's exterior are merely eroded Great Pyramids of Egypt. The eerie face peering at us from Mar's exterior is our own Great Sphinx seeing towards the heavens. However, the size of time is well into our future. Time trip is before our eyes. What appears as a seemingly array of independent objects separated by discrete distances is merely one of the same. Given the temperature variation of Mars, global warming then becomes a moot point.

Let's turn our sights to one of our most moving issues, cancer. Is there a cure in sight? We race to find a cure but we must force ourselves to look beyond the narrow scope of our lens. increasing distance (D) and mass (M) while decreasing energy (E) will not only increase life span but also may hold the definitive key to cancer's cure. If we focus on energy (E), from a metabolic standpoint, we make reference to Basal Metabolic Rate. Anything variable decreases basal metabolic rate likewise decreases the incidence of cancer. Current healing standards must be revised. At best, our attempts to hold bone mass by healthful means is in fact an absolute route to promoting the formation of cancer. Raising bone density increases metabolic rates. An increase in Basal Metabolic rate increases energy (E) which in turn shortens longevity (T). Hence, increasing bone density increases cancer. An increase in metabolic rate is an increase in energy (E) which causes a decrease in time longevity (T). healthful agents that increase bone density in post menopausal years directly shorten life span. God's simply occurring hormonal transition has been correct all along. The yield of progesterone in women's twilight years with the corresponding decline in bone mass potentiates the duration of life. Cancer is merely the byproduct of stimulating basal metabolic rates to an greatest thus creating a cellular replicating, self perpetuating vortex. We cannot eliminate this vortex by applying more energy such as radiation. In fact, we must do the very opposite. Hence, the promise for an absolute cure for cancer lies in the basal metabolic reductive capacity of cryogenics and frigid cold baths.

Optimizing the corporal laws of nature will assist us as we make expand in increasing longevity and eradicating cancer as a condition menace. We must carefully recognize and analyze many of nature's positive examples of perfection and harmony. These examples in nature all have purpose and intent and have required exponential years of evolutionary trial and error. As man universally harmonizes in the spirit of love, all things will finally be achieved.
